Protecting What We Love, Preparing for What’s Next

Friends,
The City will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Del Mar’s Community Plan at City Hall on Tuesday, September 8, at approximately 6:30 p.m. I hope you’ll join me there.
Del Mar’s Community Plan has helped shape the community we know and love: a vibrant, walkable village and residential neighborhoods, surrounded by beautiful beaches, lagoons and canyons. It has given generations of residents and leaders a framework for protecting Del Mar’s unique character while responding to change.
Now, I believe it is time to write the next chapter.
The genius of the Community Plan is that it is both visionary and practical. The question before us is how to apply that vision to the challenges we face today—and to the opportunities ahead. That is why the future of Del Mar’s community planning has become central to my campaign.
The Community Plan is not a tool for reflexively saying “no.” It can be our roadmap for saying “yes”—to thoughtful development, appropriate change and new ideas that strengthen our village, enhance its vibrancy and reflect our community’s values.
This is especially important as state mandates increasingly constrain local control. Rather than simply fighting proposals one at a time, we should use the tools we have—including our Community Plan—to shape a future that works for Del Mar. Let’s find creative ways to accommodate change while protecting our beaches, open spaces and local character.
That will take both experience and fresh perspectives.
Over the past several months, I’ve been fortunate to connect with longtime community champions who have invested decades in Del Mar. I have also met a whole new generation of friends and neighbors eager to contribute their ideas, energy and expertise. Bridging that wisdom and energy is what I am committed to doing.
Protecting Del Mar for the next 50 years will take all of us. I am grateful to be in this work alongside so many of you.
Let’s use the Community Plan not just to protect what we love, but to strengthen our community for future generations.
I look forward to celebrating this remarkable legacy together—and everything that lies ahead.
Warm regards,
