Happy Fourth of July! Del Mar Works Best When Neighbors Work Together

One of the things I enjoy most about this campaign is the opportunity to connect with residents and hear what's on your mind. Yesterday I gathered with neighbors at Coral Del Mar for "Coffee and Community," and I left grateful for the thoughtful conversation.

We talked about issues shaping Del Mar's future—from rail realignment and affordable housing to the importance of preserving local control. Our discussions reminded me that while there is great diversity of ideas in our community, we share a common goal: protecting what makes Del Mar special and making thoughtful, principled decisions for the future.

I believe good local government begins with listening. It means coming prepared, treating people with respect, and working together—even when we see things differently. Thank you to everyone who has already shared your ideas, concerns, and hopes with me. Your perspectives continue to shape my understanding of how best to serve our community.

This campaign also reminds me how many of you quietly strengthen Del Mar every day. Whether you are volunteering with one of our local non-profits, supporting a neighborhood tradition, enjoying First Thursdays or the Twilight Concerts, or simply catching up with a friend over coffee, you help create the sense of community that makes our village special. Your dedication inspires me.

As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, I hope you have the chance to enjoy the parade, our beautiful outdoors, and time with family and friends. Also, I hope we all find a moment to reflect on the values that unite us: service, civic engagement, and a shared commitment to making our community stronger.
